The Old (But So Important) Adage

Well Begun Is Half Done

In her insightful new article Forbes.com contributor Jacquelyn Smith lists a number of things experts insist are essential for making your day at work most productive. Whether you are a manager or an employee, having a good start to the day where you have greater control is critical in achieving better results, and ultimately greater career success. For example, arriving on time, or even a little early – many people forget how important it is and what an impact it can make.

Other important things include controlling your mood and deciding what tasks should be the first priority or the day. Certain morning distractions that could derail your whole day should be carefully avoided.

The workplace experts cited in the article (including myself) are approaching the subject from different perspectives but all are bringing up very important issues (some of them I myself was glad to be reminded of). And we all agree that “well begun is half-done” – one’s morning routine should be considered carefully. As should be the end of the workday, but that’s a story for another time.
